OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE
MIRAGE WATER MAKER
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PLUGGING IN
We have exercised reasonable care and caution in the manufacture and assembly of this remarkable device, and are pleased to inform you that it should provide you with excellent service for many years. Although the MIRAGE WATER MAKER is a unique machine, it is also relatively simple with very few moving parts, utilizing relatively simple technology applied in a modern way.
Before You Plug-in the MIRAGE WATER MAKER, please read these instructions completely. Both of us will benefit from you taking just a few minutes to do so.
The MIRAGE WATER MAKER is very simple and straightforward in operation. Just follow the instructions for the first time use, and you should have very few problems from then on. There is no guarantee as to the amount of water that the MIRAGE WATER MAKER will produce; however, under normal atmospheric conditions, you can expect from four to twenty liters (approximately one to five gallons) of good, clean water per day.
When your MIRAGE WATER MAKER has been removed from the carton, it is mostly assembled and almost ready to use. Just remove the drip tray from under the top of the machine, attach it to the front of the machine on the screws provided, and plug your MIRAGE WATER MAKER into the wall socket.
FIRST TIME USE AND IMPORTANT ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
FIRST - Plug the MIRAGE WATER MAKER into a standard electrical outlet, LEAVE IT ALONE AND LET IT RUN FOR AT LEAST 24 to 48 HOURS. It is shipped without water in the reservoir, and if you push the red button to get water, you will be disappointed as nothing will come out and the pump can easily be damaged from running dry. This is not covered by the warranty. Your MIRAGE WATER MAKER is designed to operate on ordinary household 110/120 volt, 60 cycle alternating current. A 15 or 20 ampere dedicated fused circuit is the preferred power source. For your safety and protection, the MIRAGE WATER MAKER is equipped with a three-terminal type grounding plug on the power cord. It must be plugged into a properly grounded three pronged outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
DO
NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,
BEND OR REMOVE THE ROUND GROUNDING PRONG
FROM THE PLUG IN ORDER TO MAKE IT FIT A TWO-PRONG RECEPTACLE.
FIRST WATER
After allowing the MIRAGE WATER MAKER to run for at least 24 to 48 hours under normal atmospheric conditions, you should have no problem getting some water. Please note that the first water out of the spout could show some small amount of carbon from our proprietary silver/charcoal filter. This is normal and will disappear within the first liter or so of water dispensed. The silver/charcoal impregnated filter assures that most smells and tastes that could be picked up in the water are removed before the water is dispensed. This is not to say that the filter can trap and remove all smells and tastes that may be introduced into the machine by the use of harsh chemicals or cleaning agents in the area of the air intake (rear of the machine). Please be careful using harsh chemicals or cleaning agents near the machine.
It is recommended that you unplug your MIRAGE WATER MAKER if you are planning to use harsh chemicals or cleaning agents near the machine.
If a chemical or cleaning agent smell or taste or any other unusual smell or taste occurs in the produced water, it is recommended that the reservoir be emptied and the charcoal impregnated water filter cartridge be changed without delay and before using any more water.
The -outside of the MIRAGE WATER MAKER can he adequately cleaned by simply wiping it with a damp cloth. It should not be necessary to clean the interior of the machine with normal use. The care and cleaning of the electrostatic air and charcoal water filters is covered later in this document.
While the MIRAGE WATER MAKER is producing water, it will also produce at least a little heat. This is normal and only occurs when the MIRAGE WATER MAKER is actually making water. The fan will run during the time the machine is making water, and by doing so, it will help keep your air fresh, clean and circulating. By changing the setting on the black knob on the front of the machine, the fan can be set to run at all times for air circulation and purification. The MIRAGE WATER MAKER has an excellent electrostatic air filter that is at least 95.4% effective on particulate matter. Please do not operate the MIRAGE WATER MAKER without the air filter. Use of the MIRAGE WATER MAKER without the air filter may allow contamination in the form of dirt, or worse, to be introduced onto the evaporator/condensation coils and could allow the MIRAGE WATER MAKER to produce water that is dirty or not of good quality and/or the dirty water could clog the charcoal impregnated water filter.
OPERATION
OF THE MIRAGE WATER MAKER WITHOUT THE FILTER(S)
WILL AUTOMATICALLY AND IMMEDIATELY CANCEL ALL WARRANTIES.
HOW
DOES THE Mirage Water Maker WORK?
Your Mirage Water Maker removes moisture (humidity)
from the air by passing the moist air over a refrigerated atmospheric
condensing coils. The moisture condenses out of the air on this coil and
is then stored in the reservoir for future use. In this way the Mirage
Water Maker partially dehumidifies the air as well and stores the removed
condensation as clean, pure water. Reducing the humidity makes air conditioning
and heating work better and, in addition, the Mirage Water Maker continuously
filters the air at the rate of about 280 cubic feet per minute This should
have the very desirable effect of reducing the particulate matter in the
air you breathe. It will do much to help keep the room clear of dust Pollen
and other Potential irritants.
PRESENCE OF FROST ON COILS - HUNMITY SWITCH
A light coating of frost on the coils
is normal when the Mirage Water Maker is first plugged in. Under normal
conditions, the frost will disappear within 30 to 45 minutes. It is also
perfectly normal for frost to form on the coils when the temperature of
the room is relatively cool (65 degrees or lower) or the humidity conditions
are not optimum for making water. SWITCH HIGH/LOW TO LOW HUAMITY. By simply
cycling the condensing unit for a few minutes twice an hour, water production
continues and no adjustments are necessary nor possible
CHANGING AND CLEANING THE FILTERS
Air
Filter
The air filter is a permanent electrostatic
type air filter that is very effective (more than 95.4% on particulate
matter) and is easy to maintain. Simply unplug the machine, then remove
the top of the machine (it just lifts off), then remove the air filter
at the rear of the machine and rinse it clean under the tap. Simply shake
off the excess water and re- install it. The machine can then be restarted
by plugging it in and you are back to making water. This is all the maintenance
the air filter should ever need.
Charcoal
Water Filter/Purifier
The charcoal water filter/purifier should provide excellent
service for up to a year or more. When it finally becomes clogged, you
will no longer be able to get water from the spout. To replace the charcoal
water filter, unplug the machine, remove the top of the machine and, turn
water spigot on to remove pressure from the system. Simply unplug the
filter and replace it with like kind.
UV
Lamp (Ultra Violet)
When the UV lamp burns out, replace with the same type
or what Mirage Water Maker sell to replace it, unplug the machine, remove
the top of the machine and, turn water spigot to on, to remove pressure
from the system. Simply unplug the filter and replace it with like kind.
Periodic
Maintenance
It is normally unnecessary to clean the inside of the
machine. However, a periodic inspection of the interior can be made by
removing the top of the machine and taking a look. Further cleaning by
the owner is not recommended. If the machine is seriously dirty, please
contact your sales representative for a service call. The machine will
stay the cleanest if the air filter is kept clean by rinsing it at least
once a month. Small amounts of discoloration on the aluminum evaporator
coils and the collection tray below it are normal and harmless. If you
insist, it can be removed by carefully washing with a soft rag and diluted
soapy water, rinsing well. It is also recommended that if you wash the
coil and drip tray, you discard all of the water made in the next 24 hours.
UV Light
Short UV wavelengths in the
region of 253.7 nanometers are lethal to microorganisms including bacteria,
nematode eggs, viruses, molds, and algae 3.
Wavelengths in the range of
260- 265 nanometers are most effective in killing microbes. By damaging
their DNA, UV light prevents bacteria and viruses from duplicating. A
cell that cannot reproduce is considered dead as it is unable to multiply
in infectious numbers within a host.
UV technology is therefore
held as an effective and efficient way of destroying bacteria in water.
It is often used in ultra pure water systems for disinfect ion and removal
of organics.
The UV system that we use is
in the range of 250 to 265 nanometers.
